Council for Geoscience is South Africa’s principal geoscientific research and advisory organisation, with a long history dating back to the 19th century, a national mandate codified in law, a workforce of several hundred, and a key role in supporting government, industry and scientific work across the country through data, services and research.

Besides its Pretoria headquarters, CGS maintains regional offices in Polokwane (Limpopo), Cape Town (Western Cape), Pietermaritzburg & Durban (KwaZulu-Natal), Gqeberha (Eastern Cape) and Upington (Northern Cape).
